We all walk our dogs, why not let those miles stack up and turn into Titles? With our Marathon Dog Program you track your miles and submit them to earn new Titles we also have Monthly Fun Challenges and Prizes. Earn your Marathon Dog Title walking in your neighborhood, window shopping in town, hiking in the mountains, or exploring new places.
Take a pic of your puppy ready for their adventure, then use the distance tracking app of your choice to map your walk. You may use any distance tracker as long as it shows total distance, time and the date. Save and submit when you are ready.
MARATHON DOG:
Marathon Dog Miles may be earned over several walks. Marathon Dog Miles are not cumulative, each level resets your mileage counter to zero and you must submit new walks.
Marathon Dog: 26.2 Miles, your dog has now completed the equivalent distance of their first marathon.
Marathon Dog I: 53 Miles, your dog has now completed the equivalent distance of walking the Bering Strait
Marathon Dog II: 62 Miles, your dog is out of this world. Yes the edge of space is roughly 62 miles above sea level.
Marathon Dog III: 85.5 Miles, your dog has now hiked the equivalent of base camp to the top of Mount Everest and back.
Marathon Dog IV: 100 Miles, your first triple digit accomplishment
Marathon Dog V: 248 Miles, not only is your dog out of this world. If you could walk this straight up you would be knocking on the door of the International Space System about now.
SPECIAL CHALLENGES:
A Mile a Day: Log a mile a day every day for 365 days. These miles may be used for other titles as well but should include a mile a day for 365 days within a rolling 375 day period (yes 375 days, we understand that weather and life happen).
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS:
These awards are tallied by total submitted miles over time across all of our programs. You do not need to track and submit for these our team of evaluators tally the totals monthly and will notify you as you become eligible.
Marathon Dog LAA I: 1,049 accumulated miles in a lifetime. Congratulations your dog has now walked the same distance as an Iditarod Dog.
Marathon Dog LAA II: 2,235 accumulated miles in a lifetime. Congratulations your dog has now walked the same distance as the Tour De France.
Marathon Dog LAA III: 2,742 accumulated miles in a lifetime. Congratulations your dog has now walked the equivalent of the East Coast to the West Coast across North America.
Marathon Dog LAA IV: 3,100 accumulated miles in a lifetime. Congratulations your dog has now walked the same distance as the World's Longest Race.
Marathon Dog LAA V: 4,132 accumulated miles in a lifetime. Congratulations your dog has now walked the length of the Nile River.
Marathon Dog LAA VI: 7,926 accumulated miles in a lifetime. Congratulations your dog has now walked the equivalent of a journey through the center of the earth.
Age: Dogs need to be over a year old to participate. Senior dogs may submit a statement from their vet indicating the safest distance for exercise at one time (divide that number in half to get the minimum mileage increment tracked).
Distance: Mileage is tallied to the nearest 10th of a mile increments. Dogs over 12 inches at the shoulder should complete at least a mile, dogs 6-12 inches at the shoulder should complete at least half a mile at a time, dogs under 6 inches should complete at least a quarter mile unless otherwise specified by your veterinarian.
Handicap: Deaf and blind dogs welcome provided they are walking nicely on a leash. Tripods and dogs in wheelchairs may participate with a statement from their vet that indicates its safe and the maximum distance they can complete in one outing. Other handicaps are welcome with a statement from a licensed veterinarian.
Reactive dogs: May also participate while safely muzzled in a muzzle sized to allow adequate pant room.
Limited mobility handlers: please email us for special consideration.
Temperature: If you live in a climate where it's excessively hot or cold and cannot safely complete the full mile increments please submit a letter from your vet indicating the safest distance/duration.
Equipment: All owners are expected to provide adequate water. Properly fitted dog shoes may be worn. Muzzles allowing a full pant are allow. Dogs are expected to be under control at all times.
Membership: Smart Dog Sports Membership is required to earn this title.
